Baja Update - 1st in Class
While most of us were battling the Easter traffic, enjoying max speeds of 45 kilometers per hour and avoiding the rain, things couldn’t have been more different for Rob and his two racing amigos, as they completed the first of four of the Baja race series.
In his words “It was the first race of four, and it went well” – ever humble, here is the translation:
Rob and his crew were FIRST IN CLASS, and 12th overall for 65 professional quad and bike teams! This is a huge accomplishment for a kiwi team, who were rivalling professional (and local!) athletes who know the terrain and are used to the sweltering heats of Mexico.
During the prize giving where they accepted their trophy, they were reminded of the differing health & safety standards with the commentator stating, “the race went very well, and we are pleased there were no deaths”. Wait, what?
It turns out that because the first race is the shortest at 262 miles and challenging rough terrain, this is where speed bares the biggest risk to life for riders and spectators!
But they survived to tell the tale, and are now home resting their bodies, ready for the next race, a mere 500 miles, in June.
Here are some highlights:

We are incredibly proud of Rob for his outstanding efforts and dedication. We’re also thrilled with the amount of money we raised for our selected charity, The Painga Project. This race is dedicated to supporting this amazing cause, and it’s truly inspiring to see how everyone’s efforts have come together. The funds raised will go a long way in making a real impact, and we’re so grateful to everyone who contributed. Each donation brings us closer to our goal, and we couldn’t have done it without the dedication and generosity of our team and supporters.
