Our APS Community

At APS, we believe our people are the foundation of everything we do. Across all seven of our trades, we are committed to creating meaningful career pathways through ongoing training, leadership development, and opportunities for internal promotion. Our Trade Skills & Leadership Programme (TSL) supports both contractors and waged staff to continue growing their skills and progressing into operational and sales roles within the business.
The wellbeing of our team is a key priority, especially within the high-risk and fast-paced construction industry. Safety is deeply embedded into our culture through comprehensive in-house training, regular health monitoring, and random drug testing to ensure everyone returns home safely each day. We also recognise the importance of mental health support in our industry, which is why APS provides access to confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) services for all employees and their families. Since introducing EAP, the strong uptake has reinforced just how important accessible wellbeing support is for our team.
APS is proud to provide benefits that support not only our employees, but also their families and futures. We offer tertiary scholarships for employees’ children, fully funded Outward Bound opportunities for young staff and family members, subsidised health insurance after one year of employment, and accommodation access at our APS Cabin in Raurimu. We are also committed to fair pay, with all entry-level employees starting on at least the Living Wage plus 10%.
Diversity, inclusion, and community remain central to who we are. Our workforce proudly represents 28 nationalities, and we continue to actively encourage gender equality across leadership and operational roles. Through initiatives such as Workbridge, we also support employment opportunities for people living with disabilities. Beyond the workplace, APS invests back into the wider community through sponsorships of local sports teams, individuals pursuing high-level sporting achievements, and community initiatives connected to our APS families.
Most importantly, we pride ourselves on being more than just a workplace. When members of our team face difficult times, the APS community comes together to provide practical and emotional support — whether through compassionate leave, fundraising efforts, or lending a hand through our trades and wider network. At APS, looking after our people is not just part of our business — it’s part of who we are.
Our Local Community
How we support our International Community
APS is a proud supporter of The Painga Project, a South Auckland based charity working to bridge equality at the school gates. Working with low decile primary schools, Painga focuses on the challenges that make learning hard and sometimes impossible such as hunger, vision, and hearing.
It has been APS’s privilege to support Painga by:
The gifting of vehicles (two 10-seater vans, and one car)
Fundraising towards vision and hearing initiatives
“APS Community Day” playground / garden upgrade
Ongoing technical support for the development of physical sites

The International Community
We work with the NZ Red Cross through their pathways to employment programme which helps settle newly arrived refugees. We currently have 3 former refugees employed at APS and are working with Red Cross to take on a fourth. This initiative has been well received within APS.
APS also has an 18-year relationship with Childfund sponsoring numerous children, and funding a number of projects including a school house in Zambia, youth training facilities in East Timor, and the installation of water tanks and boreholes in 6 countries.
At APS we are committed to social equity in the workplace and beyond. We want to ensure our business practices support a responsible and equitable future.
